The UN (United Nations) Dag Hammarskjold Medal will be awarded posthumously to Indian Police Officer Jitender Kumar during the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, on May 29 at the UN headquarters in New York. He is among the 119 military, police and civilian personnel who lost their lives in 2018 and early 2019. They will be honored by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Late Jitender Kumar sacrificed his life while serving the UN Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO). His medal will be collected by India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin.
