Women's Equality Day is celebrated on August 26, 2019. It commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment in the United States of America (USA) Constitution by US Congress in 1920 that provides equal rights to women, including the right to vote. It is an annual event in the US. The amendment for the same was first introduced in 1878. The colour for Women's Equality Day is purple. In 1920, the then US Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby signed a proclamation at his residence in Washington, ending a struggle for the right to vote and in 1971, the US Congress designated August 26 as Women's Equality Day and was first celebrated in 1973.
