The veteran leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and former MP Gurudas Dasgupta died at the age of 83. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha 3 times and 2 times in the Lok Sabha during his political career. He was appointed the General Secretary of All India Trade Union in 2001.
